Product requirements

The Following is Required for Ascend to sync Inventory with Shopify:

  1. Ascend In-Store SKU MUST match the Shopify SKU exactly.
    1. Note: SKU matching is case-sensitive. Ascend uses uppercase SKU, so the SKU must be uppercase in Shopify.
    2. Note: If you have been creating your own Shopify SKUs that do not match the Ascend In-Store SKU, additional setup work is required.
  2. Tracked Quantity should be Enabled in Shopify.
  3. Product MUST be Enabled (Online Shop) in Shopify.
  4. Product MUST be Active in Shopify.
  5. Product MUST be Active (not hidden) in Ascend.
  6. eCommerce box MUST be checked in the Properties box within the Ascend In-Store Product record.

If you’re already using Shopify, it’s essential that Product SKUs match exactly—including case sensitivity—between Ascend and Shopify. This ensures inventory and pricing updates sync properly.

If you’re new to Shopify, skip ahead to the section titled Export Shopify Product Export from Ascend HQ to quickly upload your product data from Ascend.

Will Ascend automatically create products in Shopify? No. Product creation in Shopify is your responsibility. A helpful report in Ascend HQ is available to assist with your initial product import.
Will Ascend upload product photos, extended descriptions, or other media? No. You will need to add photos, descriptions, and other content directly in Shopify.
How Many Variants Can I Have? 50 variants per model. This limit exists due to integration constraints between Ascend’s data model and Shopify’s API, along with performance and complexity considerations.

Shopify Product Export from Ascend HQ

If you are setting up Shopify for the first time or would like to export newly created products from Ascend, you can export all of your product data from Ascend with the Shopify Product Export report in Ascend HQ. This export is formatted correctly for Shopify product import.

Please check out our article, Shopify - Shopify Product Export from Ascend HQ for the steps to export this product data.

Import Product Data into Shopify

Products imported into Shopify are imported in as a Draft. You must mark the product(s) to Active and Publish to your Online Store for them to appear on your website and your Ascend Inventory to sync.

For more information on importing your product information into Shopify, please check out their article, Importing products with a CSV file.

Unsupported Product Types

Products configured as bundled variants (especially via third-party apps) are not supported by Ascend/Shopify integration.

Products in Shopify as Draft or Archived status will be skipped automatically in the Ascend Inventory sync.
