Trek’s Project One program allows customers to customize their bike with the components and paint scheme that’s unique to their needs and personality.
System setup
Note: You will need to manually create the Trek Project One placeholder product record in your database.
- In Ascend, navigate to Database Explorer > Products.
- Click Add
- Enter the following information in Master Data:
- Description: Trek Project One Placeholder
- UPC: TREKPROJONE
- SKU: TREKPROJONE
- MSRP: $0.00
- Cost: $0.00
- Category: Bikes - Project 1
- Under Properties:
- Check Do not upload label info
- Click the Vendor tab
- Click Add
- Enter the following information in Vendor Product
- Vendor: Trek Bicycle Corporation
- Part Number: TREKPROJONE
- Cost: $0.00
- Click Save on Edit Vendor Product
- Click Save on In-Store Product
- When the MSRP Is Not Greater Than Cost prompt displays, click the Yes button.
- (optional) Print labels to keep at all registers for employees to scan easily.
Project One orders
At the time of sale
- Click Add Sale.
- Associate Customer to the transaction.
- Add the Project One Placeholder product. Adjust the Price to the full price of the customized bike.
- When Special Order prompts comes up, be sure to mark Sell item and mark it for Special Order. If you are not familiar with the special order process, check out our article, Sales - Special Orders
- Take any deposit payments that your store requires.
- If full payment is taken, be sure to Keep Open is selected in the toolbar.
Order Customer Bike
- Place the order for the customer’s customized bike on Trek’s B2B site.
Create Customer's Project One as a Product Record in Ascend
- Create a product record for the customer's custom Project One bike which can be found in the order on the Trek B2B.
Note: There is no longer a spreadsheet that can be downloaded and imported into Ascend to create the product. It needs to be done manually.
Update Customer Layaway
- Once the product record for the customer's custom P1 is created in Ascend you will want to associate that to the customer's layaway.
- Open Customer Layaway
- Remove Project One Placeholder
- Add product record for customer's P1 to the transaction
- When Special Order prompts comes up, be sure to mark Sell item and mark it for Special Order.
Create Purchase Order in Ascend
- Create the Order in Ascend.
- Note: If you have Auto-Sync orders turned on, the order may already be created in your database, you just need to associate the customer in the purchase order. To learn more about the ability to Auto-Sync your purchase orders, check out our article, Ordering - Auto-Sync Options
- Download Order from Trek B2B
- If you do not have access to the customer order on the Trek B2B to download, you can manually create it in Ascend.
- Manually create the Order
- Create a vendor order for Trek Bicycle Corporation. Article: Create a Vendor Order (purchase order)
- On the toolbar, click the Reorder button and add the customer’s Special Order.
- Enter the Sales Order in the Vendor Order # field and the Customer PO in the PO Number field.

Do not check availability or submit the order.
- Manually update the order status to: Submitted Website and added the Submitted Date.
- When the customer’s bike is received, process the order, apply payments, and finish the sale like any other Special Order.
